Sania & Patrick

It all started in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, a place known for its coastal charm (hint: that’s a preview of what’s to come!). We were both students at the University of Brighton—Patrick studying civil engineering and Sania, architecture. Then the pandemic hit, forcing everyone to stay indoors. Studying from home was tough, and Sania, feeling homesick, decided to bring a touch of Bali into our basement flat. Little did we know that this simple decision would change both our lives!

After a year of living together in a seaside flat, the beach was lovely, but the winters were harsh. We needed more than just a view—we needed warmth. So, we arranged for a shipment from Bali, starting with rattan trays and placemats. These pieces immediately transformed our space, making life indoors much more pleasant. Friends and family loved it too, and we began sharing the products with them, making lockdown a little more bearable. Soon enough, we found ourselves stocking up for others as well. (And no, unfortunately, this kind of warmth won’t lower your heating bill, especially for someone like Sania, who’s used to 30-plus degrees!)

By the time we finished our degrees, our flat was filled with both our rattan décor and products for customers who shared our love for these items. Seeing the joy our customers experienced brought us immense satisfaction.

After university, Sania returned to Bali while Patrick stayed in the UK to finish his degree and manage the growing business. The eight months apart were tough due to COVID restrictions, but our shared commitment to each other—and to our business—kept us going. Even Patrick’s best friend, Adam, who had to endure piles of rattan in our Hove flat, still has his placemats and plant pots! You could say he was our first experiment, proving that no—you really can’t get sick of rattan!

Building Our Team of Crafters in Bali

In the second year of the business, we made the decision to build our own team of crafters in Bali. It was a challenge, but it aligned perfectly with our values, allowing us to ensure fair wages, quality craftsmanship, and sustainable practices. Our products are thoughtfully designed and slow-made, prioritising quality over speed. We offer customisable colours and sizes to fit unique spaces and styles, using sustainable materials like fast-growing rattan and marble off-cuts. Our goal is to bring warmth and a coastal vibe into homes, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Crafted and Designed Together

We think we make a great team, balancing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Sania’s love for design, inspired by her background in architecture, has shaped our product range. Some might say she improved Patrick’s taste—though he likes to think it was always there! Patrick brings a practical approach with his background in civil engineering, ensuring everything runs smoothly from production to delivery. Together, we’re involved in designing each product, driven by a shared vision to replace disposable plastic with coastal warmth that lasts a lifetime. Our combination of creativity and practicality allows us to create pieces that are both beautiful and functional while being sustainable.

Today, we both live in Bali, with Patrick traveling back and forth to the UK to help with orders, meet clients, and visit family and friends. Our close friend Harmonie has been with us since Patrick left more permanently,

and she now runs our UK operations, playing an essential role in keeping things running smoothly. We’re incredibly grateful for her and for the support of our team, as well as the trust our customers place in us. This trust allows us to continue sharing a bit of Bali’s warmth and Hove’s coastal spirit with homes around the world.

From that first rattan tray to a full collection of thoughtfully crafted pieces, our journey has only just begun. We’re excited to see where the coast will take us—and you—next.

Love,

Patrick and Sania
